JANUARY Writing Club: Cities from Above
Sunday, January 19th, 2025, 12:00–14:00
–
Once a month, we host a special Desired Writing Club at a surprise urban location to silently explore together an urban topic through handwriting.
We will be only 10 people and will use writing as a ritual to slow down our restless minds, dive deeper into our thoughts, and hopefully connect with our true voice and fellow writers. There will be no sharing of texts (unless someone feels like it), but as the writing hour resumes, we will start to casually discuss emerging thoughts, and connect with other urban lovers who may live or pass by the city of Athens.

What is the Desired Writing Club?
One hour of silent, uninterrupted writing.
Who?
The editor of Desired Landscapes will set the tone and a timer. There will be no lead, no talk, no sharing. Just writing by hand.
Where?
An urban location in the heart of the city, where we can truly focus.
When?
Once a month.
Why?
To stay in touch with our inner self, give physical space to our inner thoughts and meet other like-minded people who love cities and enjoy writing (but maybe never tried it). A way to stay accountable to our writing desires. One step closer to that essay, that newsletter, that book, we still want to start.
What's the extra of the special editions?
Just like our magazine, our regular writing clubs are not thematic. They happen early in the morning on the roof of our Stoa Anatolis. The special editions are sight-specific, thematic, one-off experiences. We carefully choose locations that we feel should be on the map of Athens and link back to the chosen topic of writing.
For the January edition, we chose the Museum of Islamic Art Café, to set a colorful backdrop to our mood of starting over, by enjoying a non-touristic view of Athens. The theme will be Cities from Above, which sounds quite paradoxical for a city like Athens.
